Contractors and their employees in Ontario are required to have WSIB. This covers them for workplace related accidents and sickness while they are working. But if they're injured or sick away from their workplace they receive no benefits from WSIB. Many workers who are disabled off the job have no Plan B to help provide for lost income.
As an Independent Insurance Broker I can tell you this; not all Disability Insurance plans are the same. Many Insurance companies only offer you their premier 24 hour coverage and at higher rates.
This type of plan is actually not in your best interest. Your paying for both "On & Off the Job" coverage. But you can never claim on the "On the Job" coverage since you are under WSIB; so in actuality your paying to much for this plan.
I can provide a disability plan that protects you when you are disabled away from your workplace and at a rate that is much lower than the traditional 24 hour plans. I also can provide an inexpensive "Off the Job" plan to employees who are eligible for EI benefits.
If you have no Plan B in place and would like to meet to discuss what is available please give Larry MacLaren a call at 905-994-0068.
